An overview of the papers presented in the EDRA4 Symposium on Design Languages and Methods is offered which notes a switch in reference from methodological models spawned by industry and war to those of the more humanistic disciplines. The distinction between design language and design methods is noted as is the need for their integration to augment natural problem solving thought. The use in design of dialectic ideas drawn from linguistics is discussed and the implications for design of computer models of spatial experience based on the simulation of thought is suggested.
